Nature Play Week at BONBEACH FARMERS MARKET Sunday April 10th 9am -1pm. Bring a picnic blanket &  sense of adventure.

We are so excited to bring a morning full of fun free events for kids at this months BFM. The school garden at Bonbeach Primary School will come alive with Nature Hunts, Seed Bomb making, Nature Crowns, Nature Weaving, Dirt Pits, Giant Chess Board and guided tours around the garden.

The garden at Bonbeach Primary School is run by volunteers Amy & Jade who spend most of their days pottering around creating a permaculture based garden with the school where students take part in a Gardening Club to help maintain the grounds – play, grow, eat & share. The sustainably built garden is a place of fun and adventure for kids of all ages.

The monthly Farmers Market has everything you need for a great morning out, so bring a picnic rug and let the kids free range for the morning. Enter via the market gates on Coast Banksia Dr or Breeze St.

Why Nature Play?

Do you remember your favourite childhood place in nature? Where was it? How did you find it? How did you feel when you were there?

Over the past 30 years, we have moved indoors and screen spaces have replaced green places. Use of television, computers, the internet and smartphones, increased parental fear, poor urban planning and more highly structured play and supervision keep kids from playing outside.

A growing body of evidence suggests that, from backyards to streets, parks and gardens, from the beach to the bush, kids do better outside!

Nature play is a term used to describe the creation of simple play opportunities in the natural environment. Nature play encourages kids and parents to see the natural environment as a place to enjoy, play, imagine, relax and explore.

Getting your kids involved in Nature Play doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming, it can be as simple as a visit to the local park where the kids can roam free.
